DTCC Spring Hilly 18 TT - 23/03/2014

Postby baldieheidit » Tue Jan 21, 2014 12:40 pm

Oh min!

that's me entered my first race for 2014, and I will be flying the Insch CC colours as I puff and pant my way round the Deeside Thistle Spring Hilly 18 mile Time Trial. I will never set the heather on fire, but I really enjoy the excitement of racing, regardless of where I end up in the results table. I have only done this race once before, in 2012, and came 50th out of a field of 63, with a time of 52 minutes 19 seconds (averaging about 20.7 mph). I was happy with that, as you know - hills just dont float my boat, but it is a good indicator of early season fitness. Incidentally, Peter Ettles won with a time of 41 minutes 35 seconds (averaging 26 mph......), so I wont be giving him much of a scare this year!!

I hope to be slightly fitter this year compared to 2012, and aim to get in amongst the middle of the field, the majority of whom were recording times between 47 and 49 minutes. I would be very happy with that.

As you can see from my ranking in this race - I am no where near the standard of others who compete around the area - but I do not care one jot. I turn up in a point hat and skin suit, I do my thing, try and get a PB, eat cakes, have a laugh and then go home.

If you fancy taking part but you are unsure of the process etc, give me a shout, or if you want to cheer on the Baked Bean as I defy the laws of gravity heaving my carcass around Loch of Skene, then that woiuld be nice too :D .

I will post the results of the race and a small race review, within this thread, so if anyone wishes to take part in future years, they can refer to this for an idea of other riders' times.

cheers

Nick

The race is on Sunday 23 March 2014 Ian. It is a 9am start.

Entrants will pretty much be on TT bikes, but sometimes with Hilly TT's, people swap onto normal road bikes as there is no aero advantage. Any road bike would do (I have a TT helmet that you can borrow that is too small for my massive noggin!).

The bottom line is Ian, that nobody cares (unless you win and wipe the floor with everyone,.....)

DTCC Spring Hilly TT Results and Race Review

Thanks to Becky for organising todays event and the marshalls need a special mention for braving the elements to keep it all safe. There was a brutal biting NW wind today, accompanied by snow towards the end. My day started terribly when I realised I'd forgotten my Heart Rate Monitor strap for my Garmin, and furthermore that my Garmin was still not recording speed, so I had no way of pacing my race. This knocked me off my stot a bit, and then I realised during warm up that something was rattling on my drive train. Rattling so much that the marshalls heard it as I cycled by! Anyway I struggled into the wind and over the Hill of Linton Climb today, but for my first race in 22 months I'm not too disapppointed. I received a lot of positive comments today about Insch CC, our nice bright strip and riders are looking forward to seeing more of us racing this season. Finally - what a spread of food at the presentation - Oh man! That's the best I've seen.

Well done Nick, first of the season is always the worst, so what was causing the rattle?

I think its my rear cassette. I'll put another spacer on, that should do it.
